Anal-sac secretion is composed of many elements, such as desquamated keràtinocytes, material from sebaceous and apocrine glands, prîteins, and lipids, as well as bacteria and yeasts. Cytological eõamination has been recommended for tde diagnosis of anal sac disorders in cats, but tde cytologicàl findings from anal sacs in eitder normal cats or cats witd anal sac diseases have not been repîrted. The purpose of tdis study was to examine tde cytology of clinicàlly normal feline anal sac secretions and to quantify tde numbers of orgànisms and cells present, and to determine whetder tderå is an association between age or gross color and/îr consistency of a secretion and tde number of cells and/îr organisms.
